On February 25, I attended the Battle of Okeechobee at Okeechobee Battlefield Historic State Park. This was a major battle fought in the Second Seminole War. Click here to visit and support The Okeechobee Battlefield Friends, Inc.
I also got to hang out with two of the original members of the Loxahatchee Battlefield Preservationists, Steve Carr and Patrick Mesmer, who helped to found the LBP. You can read more about the beginnings of the LBP in Richard J. Procyk’s book, Guns Across the Loxahatchee, which is available both in print and on Kindle.
I also got a chance to speak with Mary Lou Missal and John Missal, both scholars and authors of books about the Seminole Wars.
The Seminole Wars: America’s Longest Indian Conflict, can be found at North Palm Beach Public Library, and the Martin County Library System.
Each year, the event is a lot of fun! Check it out, support the Okeechobee Battlefield Friends, and read more about the history of the Seminole Wars.
Check out the books at your local library.
